About me

My Journey

Thanks for checking out Carys Creatives. To me, fashion is more than a profession. It’s a passion that determines the lens through which I perceive everything around me. I am currently studying at the University of Chester studying Fashion marketing with communication with the intent to pursue my journey into becoming an in house fashion stylist with creative direction.

Below is my fashion instagram with previous work I have created.

Brand me

A digital space

For my brand me journey and in preparation for a professional career in becoming a stylist for the luxury market level I have created a website where I can not only create that digital space for industry style mentors, brands and clients to recognise me and reach out to me but my website represents who I am and what I have to offer within the industry. I created my website in order to express who I am as a person taking on the styling world and what I enjoy about the fashion industry including trends, addressing wider issues that affect consumers and the fashion world and what we can do to achieve a better environment for brands and consumers. I do not want my website just to be a space where my work is viewed from what I have already done, I wish to create an online platform addressing topics that I am passionate about such as technology within fashion and sustainability.

About CARYS BULLOCK STYLING

The Full Story

On the first page of my website, you are presented with images from my first professional, styling campaign which reflects the concepts of anonimity being the new identity within our society and how more consumers are resorting to more of a private lifestyle due to issues we as a culture are faced with such as Brexit and the current global pandemic. This topic as well as exploring my personal style of minimalism was investigated as part of my second year and has been a driving force to who I am and what I like within the fashion industry as well as design industry today. The first impressions to me are always the most important, therefore the imagery on my first page is a reflection of who I am, what I am about within the fashion industry and how professional I am. For example, these images reflect me as I am a strong minded and independent character who works hard to achieve the best and is a forward thinking indivdual. My images on my website’s front page are very minimalistic which relfects my own personal style and reflects the clean lifestlye I love to lead, not only in fashion but in my interior design. The term less is more is a phrase I often use in my style and has trickled into my work a lot espeically within my visuals.

About CARYS BULLOCK STYLING

The Full Story

The art of minimalism and a clean, natural space is something I love as I find it calming and tranquil but also allows room to add pops of colour if I wish to do so. My work and style definatly reflects a ‘wabi sabi’ aesthetic which is a japanese traditional appeal which highlights a simple world and the beauty of imperfection. The wabi-sabi lifestyle is something I came across when researching into my secondary passion of interior design and the lifestyle not only applies to design or fashion but the way you live your life, which is something I can relate to. The philosphy is a simple lifestyle, where you have to embrace the unpredictablity of the life around you and the more you add onto something can completely change the orginal meaning of the object. This applies to my work style a lot and my visuals as the way my personality is I tend to overthink things and over complicate things too much where the orignal meaning or concept will disappear. I also think my inspiration to having an organic visual has been pushed further by my growing interest in the market of sustainability and exploring how the importance of sustaianbility is shaping the luxury fashion industry. Sustainability is a growing topic within the fashion industry and the postives are that consumers as well as big luxury brands are starting to take it seriously. As previously, studied and examined within my fashion futures report, the future of fashion is drastically changing to suit more sustainable practises and this is pioneered by our digital generation.

Therefore, I love practising a minimal aesthetic within my work but using digital editing and minipulation in order to engage with generation Z and beyond them.

This is why I chose this professional shoot as I fell in love with these images and feel they depict such an important message of how the struggles of our modern day society can affect consumers. Also, it is important for me to only upload content that fits and contributes to the luxury market, as it is important for me to be become recognisable to luxury brands, designers and clients. Along with the imagery on the first age, I have also including a short piece of text about my journey within the fashion inudustry and what I am about. I have expressed that the way I percieve fashion is through the lens of everything around me as I believe that in order to become a successful stylist in the future, it is important i am in touch with wider issues outside of the fashion industry as this is what will shape my next move. For example, a massive impact on everything within the world and our society at the moment which has been a massive learning curve in terms of absorbing myself within constant research of different brands and engaging with the right consumer to be able to market and communicate with the consumers for the future. If anything I am very grateful for the pandemic and realising this.

The journey of my fashion styling aspiration has been setting stone since GCSE edcuation level as I have always been a strong minded character and have always known that I wanted to be in the fashion industry just not what area. I have never been the academically clever and the education system has been a struggle to achieve the scores I wish to obtain. However, with my personality and hardworking mentality I never allow myself to wallow in my struggles but to grow and overcome the challenges I face and I feel like my brand me journey has allowed this to shine through within my work and style and a website is a platform for enabling this to reach a professional audience and clients. As mentioned previously, academic subjects such as Maths and English I have always struggled with but I have always excelled in creative subject as I class myself as a visual learner studing both fine art and textiles from GCSE level right through to A-levels. During my college experience I paired my creative attributes with business and media where I really connected with the different styles of businesses and engaging with different media platforms and audiences which really worked well leading up to my University journey and along with my mothers businesses minded mentality helped shaped me as a person and my ideas for my future career aspirations today. During my first year to approaching my last year at Uoc (University of Chester), my work has both been a relfection of my creative story telling concepts with a mixure of journalism as explaining my ideas in a business style report with statistics and research of external issues affecting the fashion inudstry passion of mine. However, bringing this into the level at University has been challenging as I was not always 100% sure what area of the fashion industry I wished to go down and where my ability was best suited to. After much research and reflecting on second year when our work was based around our career aspirations, styling and creative direction was a career I feel best suited for the luxury conceptual market level.

I enjoy styling pieces together with a brief I have been given or a concept I have created myself and being able to minipulate this to communicate garments to fit into the luxury conceptual market is a strong passion of mine. The conceptual market in the luxury fashion industry are communications or collections from designers that have a deeper meaning and narrative behind what the consumers initially see. Often, conceptual brands and their communications evoke a certain emotion for their consumers or portray a strong narrative they wish their target audience would engage with highlighting topics that are happening within todays society through the medium of collections and campaign’s. Realising excel best in the conceptual luxury market stem from my ideas and visuals from second year to my brand me journey where my imagery and brand research was very abstract and alternative to say lifestyle luxury brands. Secondly, I believe my personality has lead me to the conceptual luxury market as I love exploring concepts in a different other than the obvious so my brand research and story telling was very much based on underpinning every detail on campaigns to reflect the narrative. For example: location, suitable model, hair, makeup, styling, props and lighting. Every detail needs to examined and questioned as to why that brand has used this in order to convey the narrative or emotion.

Lastly, even though my website is a place where I can post content of my work or upcoming work as a digital gallery space I am also passionate of using this as a space to discuss social, poltical and environmental issues that consumers can engage with for the future.  I believe this is a way I can tie my creative side with my intellectual personality to create a platform for where consumers can engage with these subjects and forecast trends during my research. I am aware that social media platforms such as Instagram is a perfect place for this, however consumers that are from the baby boomer generation and older millenials may be more comfortable and familiar using a website therefore creating this space is allowing me to increase my audience circle. I want my website to be a space where all ages of consumers can go to feel connected to the story I am building based on real events hapoening around the world and evoking emotion that this may trigger.
